The Pain of Receiving the Wrong Wages

I want to share with you an F.T.E. (F**k This Event) that really frustrated me!

Whilst working for the police service I did a lot of things to support them, for example when they were short on staff, I changed shifts to accommodate them, I worked every Christmas and New Year and put up with duty changes that really ruined my plans for things I had going on in my personal life.

The above were just some instances that in all fairness did annoy me, but when the organisation get your wages wrong, meaning that you get paid a lot less then what you expected, a whole new level of frustration comes into play!

This happened to me on several occasions, but there was one instance that really made me think F.T.!

My best mate and I were due to go away for a trip to London to attend a personal development seminar and I was relying on my wages to pay for the hotel and trip there. But unfortunately, the forces finances department ended up getting my wages wrong! I was approx. £320 short.

Now if it wasn’t for such an amazing mate, I might not have been able to go to that awesome seminar but thankfully I did.

I understand mistakes happen, we are all human, but when things like this happen several times over a period of three years, well it can get annoying!

After all, you would think it was a simple process to get sorted out right? Wrong! I had to make about 5 different calls, send emails and speak to an automated robot, to sort out a problem that wasn’t my fault. Meaning I had to spend more of my time to sort the issue out! (I did always wonder, how come they don’t get your wages wrong the other way around, why don’t they pay you more?!)

The thing is we have personal life’s too, which rely on a wage, so we can pay our bills, pay for our food and other necessities and when things like this happen, it brings about a worry that really puts us in an uncomfortable position.

I know many of my ex-colleagues have gone through the same thing too, but the FTE for myself was a really big eye-opener. I really disliked the feeling, waiting for someone else to pay me a wage and crossing my fingers each month in the hope that it was correct and to be honest, I felt undervalued as an employee, that someone had not check to ensure my wages were right.

Thankfully I do not need to go through this again due to owning my own business, I am in charge of my own income and guess what, it is never wrong.
