How to Build a Successful Business in 6 Steps | Shifts to Success

The premise of my book is explaining the six-step method you’ll need to develop to build a business correctly, safely and much quicker!

So when you decide to go into business my assumption is that you will do all that you can to ensure it is successful right? Well, its all too common that people skip the six key steps of building a business and when they fail they blame the customer, their idea or even their own ability to operate a business.

When typically, they should be blaming their lack of education and knowledge! So I am going to share with you the six key steps of building a business and why they are crucial for the success of your business.

So the first step is IDEAS!

An idea alone will not give you that lifestyle you want beyond the job! You see it is all too often that people have an idea for a business BUT forget about the business for the idea!

You see with an idea, you need to go deeper with it. Such as correctly, identifying your ideal customer, their characteristics, their problems, market research into the industry you’re getting in to, how you’re going to stand out, your business case, your team and many more things, you’ll need to think about in regards to the idea!

The second step is PLANNING!

Clarity is power and planning is a huge part of the development of your business. Think about a big job you go to in the police, typically you plan to get the desired outcome you want right? Well, business is no different. If you do not plan for your journey ahead, you’ll either end up somewhere completely lost and not arriving at all, or you’ll take twice as long to get to your desired outcome, wasting resources such as time and money! Some things to think about with planning, are your business plan, your financial planning, your business model, your marketing strategy, your competitors, operations and logistics, your key activities and even things like which bank and insurances you’ll need.

The third step is BRANDING!

This step is such a big mistake that people make when it comes to business. Branding isn’t just about your logo! It so much more! Branding is the way your company communicates consciously and subconsciously with your target market and yet people rush into business, get all excited get a logo “They” like, not thinking about the target customer, they get a website that again doesn’t communicate to their customer and even name their company and give it a strapline that again, doesn’t pull the customer to them!

Some things to consider with branding, are the name, the strapline, the colour pallet, the typefaces, your competitor analysis, your designer, your logo development, your imagery, your brand guidelines, communicating your brand voice, your brochures, your website design and even your paper and print finishes!

Getting these things right from the beginning will again save you time, money and energy! Branding is an asset within your business!

The fourth step is IMPLEMENTATION!

Now I am assuming you go into business to achieve freedom and yet, far too many people just end up creating another job for themselves! The objective is to work ON your business NOT in it. This is why it is essential that you know how to leverage systems, use the power of online marketing, to reach your target market and build trusting relationships!

Some things to consider is first, how are you going to market, what social media platforms will you use, what paid ads will you use, what landing pages will you create, what lead magnets will you develop, what content will you create, how will you generate traffic and overall what will be your strategy to take your ideal customer through your sales funnel?

The fifth step is PRODUCTS!

Companies that develop sustainability and scale create integrated product suites! Not one product, but an entire eco-system of products. They take their ideal customer on a journey with them which increases the customer lifetime value. They get highly paid for the value and outcome that a product or service can deliver. Not to mention naming their products or services correctly.

Companies that develop a product ecosystem typically scale beyond the VAT threshold into the six-figure range, a lot quicker than those who don’t.

And the six-step is SALES!

Sales are the lifeblood of any business. You could have the most amazing idea, branding and marketing, in fact, you could have hit all of the other steps perfectly, but if you do not know how to sell, build trust, credibility, win customers, drive sales appointments, nurture your prospects and create successful sales presentations, well you will not generate rewarding sales for you and your business.

You need to look at sales as serving. So that your customer can move forward with their life and get their problem solved by your product or service.

So that is it the six-steps to building a successful business! By developing all of these key steps you will not only scale your business much quicker, but the journey is all that bit easier and smoother, which again will save you time, money and energy in the long run!
