Do you need to leave the police service to build a business?

So I get this questions a lot; “Do I need to leave the police service to build a business?”

And it’s a great question,

The answer absolutely not. You do you need to leave the police service to build a business.

When I was working in the police service I started my business on the side and so are our Shifts to Success clients.

There are Three benefits to this:

The first,  you will use your time more wisely and your productivity increases. There is something called Parkinson’s Law. Which states that the amount of time you give to a task is equivalent to the amount of time that task will take.

So for example, if you have your rest days to finish a task, let’s say 4 days and let’s say its to write a piece of content for your business. Well, the chances are you will complete that task before you go back on shift after your rest days.

Most of us have had that experience right, our house is a mess and then all of a sudden you get a text from a friend to say they are coming around in an hour. Then all of a sudden you whip around the house like you have had 10 cans of Redbull and end up getting the house cleaned in time for your friends to come around.  Well, this is Parkinson’s law in effect.

But let’s say you leave the job to build your business. All of a sudden you have this huge amount of time at your disposal and again Parkinson’s law will come into effect, but this time it could affect your productivity negativity because now you haven’t got 4 rest days to get in all your tasks.

The second benefit is better business investments…

When building a business in the job you can plan business investments better. For example, in the job, you know when you are going to get paid. This is great because you know when you can use your wages to invest in your business.

Whether you need to buy a new printer, or laptop or a new camera you know when you will be able to afford those things because you know the job is going to pay you on a particular day. Now If you leave the job before building a business, you’ll need to make sales to fund those things or take out a loan.

Also when you get to a level of income in your business that is able to support your lifestyle if you were to leave the job, the transition from Police Officer to Entrepreneur, is much smoother, than if you were to leave before you reach that level of income.  This minimises the risk.

The last benefit is, pain…

Your probably watching this video right now, because you are experiencing some sort of pain in the job. Whether that is missing your kids grow up, not being paid your worth, mental health issues such as stress, not living up to your potential or perhaps physical pain from an injury.

Now whatever pain you’re going through, is a good thing!! But only a good thing If you use it. Pain is an incredible motivator to gain results in your life. Because we tend to avoid pain far greater than going towards pleasure.

For example, if your building a business to become rich vs building a business because you are sick missing the highlights of your kids grow up, then chances are the person with the pain of missing their kids will be much more motivated to gain results and persist when challenging times arise.

Now if you leave the job, all that pain has disappeared. This can be detrimental to your results. Because the avoidance of pain is not pushing you anymore.

Pain is fuel. If your experiencing it right now, just know that you can use that to your advantage to gain remarkable results to change your life.

Now if you an ex or serving officer who has jumped ship already, don’t get freaked out! You can still gain remarkable results.

This just answers the question for those who think they have to leave the job to build a business.

I hope this video has helped, if you have any questions at all, please do let me know in the comments section below.
